FPB 64

This FPB 64 was delivered from Fiji to New Zealand, a route that highlights exactly what these expedition yachts were designed to do: cover significant offshore distances efficiently and comfortably.

FPB 64 Delivery from Fiji to New Zealand

We collected this FPB 64 in Fiji for the passage south to New Zealand. Having delivered several vessels similar motor yachts from the FPB range over the years, including an FPB exceeding 25 metres in length, we were already familiar with the design philosophy and operating characteristics that make these boats unique among offshore motor yachts.

Built by Circa Marine in Whangarei, the FPB 64 was conceived as a genuine long-range passagemaker rather than a coastal cruising motor yacht. Range, fuel efficiency and offshore capability sit at the centre of the design, making routes such as Fiji to New Zealand well within the vessel’s intended operating profile.

Preparation focused on weather timing and offshore readiness. While the distance between Fiji and New Zealand is routinely completed by cruising yachts each year, conditions change significantly as vessels leave the tropics and move into higher southern latitudes. Selecting the right departure window is often more important than outright passage speed.

One of the advantages of the FPB 64 is the flexibility provided by its range and efficiency. Unlike many motor yachts that are heavily influenced by fuel stop requirements, the FPB allows routing decisions to be based primarily on weather and sea conditions. This becomes particularly valuable on passages where forecast systems can evolve during the voyage.

As the yacht progressed south, conditions gradually transitioned from tropical trade wind patterns to the more variable weather systems associated with New Zealand waters. Regular forecast analysis and route adjustments ensured the vessel remained positioned favourably throughout the passage.

The FPB 64 handled the voyage exactly as expected from a purpose-built expedition yacht. These vessels are designed to spend extended periods offshore, and that heritage becomes apparent during longer passages where efficiency, reliability and crew comfort matter more than outright speed.

Arrival in New Zealand completed another successful offshore relocation aboard an FPB. Having delivered multiple vessels from the range, the Fiji to New Zealand route once again demonstrated why the FPB series has developed such a strong reputation among owners planning serious long-distance cruising programmes.
