This delivery involved relocating a Maritimo 52 from Picton to Auckland for the new owner. We had also previously delivered the vessel for the former owner, so there was already a good level of familiarity with the boat before departure.
That makes a genuine difference operationally on longer coastal passages. Knowing the fuel profile, Maritimo handling characteristics, onboard systems, and general behaviour of a vessel offshore removes a lot of uncertainty before leaving the dock. It also allows passage preparation to move much faster compared with taking over an unfamiliar yacht.
The route north from Picton required careful timing around Cook Strait before continuing up the New Zealand coastline toward Auckland. Even moderate forecasts through the strait can become uncomfortable once wind opposes tide, particularly on motor yacht deliveries where maintaining comfortable motion matters over several days underway.
The Maritimo 52 handled the passage extremely well. These boats are very well suited to New Zealand coastal cruising with a solid offshore ride, practical range, and comfortable enclosed layout for longer passages. One thing consistently noticeable on the Maritimo platform is how predictable they remain once sea conditions deteriorate slightly. That becomes important on New Zealand coastal routes where conditions can change quickly between regions.
Fuel management and weather routing were straightforward throughout the trip and conditions allowed steady progress northbound without major delays. The vessel remained economical at sensible cruising speeds and very comfortable for extended time underway.
At Yacht Delivery Solutions, offshore and coastal motor yacht deliveries throughout New Zealand form a regular part of our relocation operations for both returning and new owners.
