Schionning 1600 Yacht Delivery | New Zealand to Fiji
We deliver Schionning performance catamarans from New Zealand to Fiji and throughout the South Pacific. This Schionning 1600 delivery involved preparing the yacht for an offshore passage from New Zealand before sailing north to Denarau, Fiji.
The Schionning 1600 is a fast, capable performance catamaran, and delivering a boat of this type requires a different approach from moving a conventional cruising catamaran. Boat speed, apparent wind, sail selection and rig loads need to be watched closely as conditions change, particularly when the yacht is capable of covering substantial distances in a short period.
The delivery included two days of preparation before departure. Once offshore, the passage to Fiji took seven sailing days, with approximately 1,100 nautical miles covered before arriving at Denarau for clearance into Fiji.
During the passage, the skipper monitored the rig, sails, steering, autopilot, navigation equipment and electrical systems while managing the yacht for the conditions encountered. Performance is useful on a passage like this, but there is little value in pushing a boat harder than necessary simply to gain a few hours.
