Oceanis 45

This Oceanis 45 was collected in Tonga before being delivered south through Fiji and on to New Zealand, following one of the classic cruising routes of the South Pacific.

Oceanis 45 Delivery from Tonga to Fiji and New Zealand

We are experienced Oceanis delivery skippers operating throughout the South Pacific, with extensive offshore yacht delivery experience across New Zealand.

We joined this Oceanis 45 in Tonga for a yacht delivery that would take the yacht through Fiji before continuing south to New Zealand. The route is familiar to many Pacific cruising yachts as they relocate between the islands and New Zealand according to the season.

The Oceanis 45 is a popular offshore cruising yacht, offering a good balance between performance, comfort and practicality. With generous tankage, comfortable accommodation and straightforward sail handling, the model is well suited to extended passages such as this.

After departing Tonga, the yacht made its way to Fiji where final preparations were completed before the longer leg south. Fiji often serves as a staging point for vessels preparing to leave the tropics and head towards New Zealand.

The passage from Fiji to New Zealand requires careful weather planning. Moving south means leaving the trade winds behind and entering an area influenced by more active weather systems. Departure timing is often the single most important factor in achieving a comfortable and efficient passage.

The Oceanis 45 performed well throughout the delivery, maintaining steady daily runs while remaining comfortable offshore. As conditions gradually changed approaching New Zealand, regular forecast updates and routing decisions helped ensure an efficient arrival.

The yacht arrived safely in New Zealand after completing another successful South Pacific relocation. Deliveries linking Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand remain among the most common routes undertaken by cruising yachts operating throughout the region.
