Leopard 43 Delivery from New Zealand to Tonga

The passage from New Zealand to Tonga is a popular route for cruising catamarans heading into the Pacific islands for the season. For this delivery, the owner joined us onboard, providing an opportunity to gain valuable offshore experience while relocating the yacht north into tropical waters.

The Leopard 43 is a proven cruising catamaran with a strong reputation for offshore capability. The design offers a practical balance of comfort, storage capacity and sailing performance, making it well suited to longer passages between New Zealand and the South Pacific islands.

Departure timing was largely driven by weather conditions. Choosing the right window is one of the most important aspects of any Leopard delivery from New Zealand to Tonga passage, particularly during the first few days after leaving the New Zealand coast.

Having the owner onboard added another dimension to the delivery. Throughout the voyage we were able to work through watchkeeping routines, weather interpretation, passage planning and the day-to-day management of the yacht during an extended offshore crossing.

As the yacht progressed north, conditions gradually became warmer and more typical of the tropical South Pacific. The Leopard 43 performed well throughout the voyage, maintaining comfortable passage speeds and providing a stable platform for both crew and owner.

Arrival in Tonga completed a successful offshore delivery and positioned the yacht for further cruising among the islands. Routes between New Zealand and Tonga remain some of the most common passages undertaken by cruising catamarans operating in the South Pacific.
