This was the second time we had been asked to deliver this Horizon PC52, having previously taken the vessel north from New Zealand.
Horizon Delivery New Zealand
We are experienced Horizon delivery skippers with a strong background moving offshore power yachts throughout New Zealand and the wider Pacific.
Returning to a familiar boat is always useful. We already understood the vessel’s systems, fuel consumption, operating speeds and general handling characteristics, which reduces handover time and allows more focus on passage planning and weather routing.
The Horizon PC52 is a capable passagemaking power catamaran with excellent fuel efficiency for its size. On this delivery, careful fuel management remained a key consideration, particularly when balancing passage speed against weather windows and sea state. Like many long-range cruising powercats, the vessel performs best when operated within a relatively narrow speed range rather than constantly chasing higher average speeds.
One of the practical advantages of repeat deliveries is having previous voyage data available. Fuel figures, marina access considerations, clearance procedures and route options from the earlier passage all provided useful reference points during planning.
The trip also reinforced why the Horizon PC52 has developed a strong following among owners looking for comfortable long-distance cruising capability. Good visibility from the helm, generous fuel capacity and predictable handling make it well suited to coastal and offshore relocations where reliability and efficiency are often more important than outright speed.
As with many owner relocations, the objective was straightforward: move the vessel safely, maintain systems correctly underway and deliver it ready for its next stage of cruising. Having already completed a significant delivery on this Horizon PC52 previously and other Horizons in AU, we were able to approach the passage with a solid understanding of both the vessel and the operational requirements involved.
